Am I required to wear Personal Protective Equipment when visiting the offices and yard?

All visitors are required to wear enclosed footwear and a high visual vest if they wish to visit our yard. We provide all visitors with hi-vis vests. Visitors are not required to wear personal protective equipment if they are just visiting the yard for viewing or offices.

Does Smith Broughton have onsite parking?

Smith Broughton has onsite parking located in front of our office. This is accessible only via Military Road.

Can I inspect lots that are in an auction?

Yes, we encourage inspection of all lots prior to bidding as these are sold on an 'as is' basis. Inspection times vary per auction, details are found within the auction listing. Please note, inspection times run between Monday - Friday, 8.30am-4.30pm, excluding weekends and public holidays.

What is 'Buy Now'?

All assets that are classified as 'Buy Now' items are found under the 'Buy Tab'. All assets listed as buy now items are available for direct purchase and will not be listed in an auction.

How do I locate Smith Broughton Auctioneers current live auctions?

Visit the Smith Broughton Auctioneers homepage. Click the tab 'Buy'. Three options will display, select 'Bid Online'. Here you will see all live online auctions.

Where can I search for available items?

There are a number of ways to search for available items.
1. Visit our homepage. There is a 'search our catalogue' option. Place your curser on the white line and type in what you are searching for.
2. Visit the 'Buy' tab found at the top of the page. Three options will appear, select 'Asset Catalogue'. Here you can search our entire catalogue of available assets.
3. If you can't find what you are looking for, contact our office on 08 9374 9222 where our friendly staff will be available to assist.


Can I adjust my bid if I make a mistake?

What are my payment terms?

As per the bidders terms and conditions all invoices are required to be paid in full within 48 hours of the raised invoice.

What are my payment options?

Buyers at Smith Broughton Auctioneers have various payment options which include Cash, Bank Cheque, Personal or business Cheque, Electronic Funds Transfer, Eftpos and Credit Card.

Please note all credit card payments will occur a 1.25% fee, this includes Visa or MasterCard debit cards when selecting the credit facility. If you wish to pay for your invoice over the phone, your invoice must be less than $2500 total including the fee. Both personal and bank cheques need to clear through Smith Broughton’s bank account prior to goods being released. Clearance times may vary.

To enable accurate allocation of your EFT payment please ensure that you use your sale number and buyer’s code as a receiver’s reference, as this is your unique identifier.

How long do I have to collect my goods?

All purchased goods can be collected once paid in full. We ask for all goods to be collected within 48 hours of the sale. If buyers reach over due date for collection a storage fee will apply.

What are Smith Broughton’s buyer’s premium charges?

All purchases are subject to the applicable buyers' premium and GST on top of the hammer price.

Buyer's Premium: 8% Inc GST of the hammer price for purchases $5001 or more; or 14% Inc GST of the hammer price for purchases $5000 or less.

*Please note, certain sales may have a flat rate buyer’s premium it is the buyers' responsibility to review all fees and charges as per the terms and conditions of each sale.

How do I register to bid at a timed online auction?

Registering to bid online is simple, a bidding registration can be completed by the online bidding registration form which is found at the top right corner of our website. All buyers are required to complete and fill out their details along with agreeing to the terms and conditions of Smith Broughton. Once approved, you will receive a confirmation email. Please check your junk mail of your email account.

Can I change the business name on my invoice once I have purchased items?

No, once we have entered your details into the system and you have received your invoice we are unable to change the business name for your purchases. This is due to our audit compliance requirements. We ask that you ensure the details you provide us with are correct at the time of registering. It is extremely important that you register in the correct name as if you purchase a licensed vehicle the name that you register with is the name that will appear on the transfer papers. If you require assistance, please contact us.

Can I register as both my business and as an individual?

Yes, providing you have both a business email and a personal email. An email address can only be used once when registering.

Why can I not log into my internet bidding?

You may not be able to log into your internet bidding account if you have not activated your account. On first registration, you will be emailed an activation email. Be sure to check your inbox for this. Once received, follow the prompts within the email and your account will be activated. During office hours our staff approve all new bidders daily. Another reason may be that your account has temporarily been suspended due to not complying with the terms and conditions.

I cannot log into my internet bidding account because I have forgotten my password, can I reset this?

Yes, all passwords can be reset. All buyers can do these themselves by simply selecting the “forgot password” section when going to log into their internet bidding account.

I purchased a licensed vehicle, what happens next?

Once your payment has cleared, transfer papers will be issued in the name on your invoice. You are required to supply either a copy of your driver’s license (if the invoice is issued in a personal name) or a current ACN (Australian Company Number). Email this information to [email protected]

Why does my invoice not have GST on it?

Your invoice does not have GST on it as the seller is not registered for GST, therefore you are not required to pay GST as the seller is selling the asset privately or unregistered for GST.

Do I have to pay GST if exporting goods?

Yes, all invoices are required to be paid in full, regardless if you are exporting the goods. If you provide our office with a bill of lading within 60 days we will refund your GST.

What are my asset realisation options?

What does guaranteed minimum return mean?

For selected items, Smith Broughton may offer you a GUR or Guarantee, where we guarantee the amount your equipment will receive at auction. If the auction value does not meet the guarantee, Smith Broughton will pay the difference.

What does unreserved mean?

An item that is unreserved means that there is no figure, or reserve, the item must receive before selling. No matter what the bid, the item will sell to the highest bidder.

An item that is reserved means that there is a figure the item must receive before selling.

What am I required to provide Smith Broughton if I wish to sell my asset on consignment?

Smith Broughton Pty Ltd requires you to sign a Consignment contract, which our staff will discuss and provide to yourself. If the asset is licensed we require a copy of the registration paper work. As we are a motor vehicle dealer, Smith Broughton Pty Ltd will complete the license transfer.

I had equipment in an auction, when will I receive my sale proceeds?

All sale proceeds are disbursed to your nominated bank account within 21 days of the final sale.

Why does my remittance not have GST on it?

The Buyer that purchased your goods is an Export Buyer that has provided Smith Broughton with a Bill of Lading to prove that the goods have been exported.


What are the operation hours of the yard?

Our yard is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm for pick ups and drop offs.

Does your yard have loading facilities?

Yes, our yard has forklifts and yard staff to assist with loading your goods onto your truck.

Do you have an entrance for trucks?

There is a pickup and drop off entry at our main entrance on Military Road.

How do I collect my purchased goods?

Firstly, all purchased goods you are required to be paid in full prior to collection. Once goods are paid for you will be required to come to reception, provide your sale number and buyer code. Our admin staff will approve your goods for collection and from there our yard staff will assist yourself in loading the goods onto your vehicle.

What if I cannot collect my purchased goods?

If you are unable to collect your purchased goods you are required to complete a pick up authorisation form. This form is sent with your invoice, along with a copy on our website under forms. Once the form has been completed and signed we ask you to send it through to [email protected]

I require my purchase to be measured; can Smith Broughton assist in measuring the asset?

Smith Broughton is able to provide yourself with measurements for transportation. All measurement requests are to be sent through to [email protected]

Can I freely inspect assets around the yard? Am I required to wear Personal Protective Equipment?

Smith Broughton allows you to freely inspect assets, however all visitors are required to sign in at reception along with wearing enclosed footwear and high visual vests. We provide all visitors with hi-vis vests.
Due to work safety standards if you are in open footwear you must be accompanied by a sales rep and will be driven in a golf buggy.
