Our History
Smith Broughton Auctioneers origin dates way back to 1977 when Broughton Broughton & Co was founded by Max Broughton and based in the Perth suburb of Bayswater.
By 1981, the company expanded, specializing in asset valuation and sales for the mining and resources sectors. During this time, Max Broughton brought Darren Smith on board as a trainee valuer. The company’s growth extended into the finance and government sectors.
In 1991, Darren Smith departed to establish DW Smith & Sons Auctioneers & Valuers, focusing on the mining and resources niche. In 1997, Darren and Max reunited, merging their companies to form Smith Broughton Auctioneers, operating from their Midland facility, where they continue to thrive.
Today, the company remains in the hands of Darren Smith and Max Broughton, with Darren serving as the Managing Director.
