Selling Farm Machinery FAQs

Will it take long to sell my used farm equipment?

The selling process usually takes 3-4 weeks. We advise putting your farm equipment and machinery in our standard, two-week pre-auction promotion and marketing campaign, which is covered by our fee structure, in order to maximise your sales results and get interest from potential farm equipment buyers. The auction runs for seven days, with payment processing occurring 21 days following the auction’s end. A dedicated sales representative will be assigned to you who will look after the farm equipment you wish to sell and assist in organising inspections, and respond to inquiries from possible buyers during the marketing campaign as well as throughout the auction.

Can I trade in my used farm equipment?

Smith Broughton can help you dispose of used farm equipment in a number of ways. Please speak to one of our sales representatives for more information.

Do I need to deliver the farm equipment I wish to sell, or can you pick it up?

When you are planning the transport of your farm equipment to any of our auction sites, please let our team know. Depending on the type of farm equipment you wish to sell, our sales representatives may be able to recommend a third-party solution, which is practical and affordable for you.

Do you photograph my farm equipment prior to the auction?

Yes. As part of our booking process, Smith Broughton will photograph the farm equipment you wish to sell. These photos will also be used in marketing and advertising campaigns in the lead up to the auction.

Are there restrictions on the farm equipment I can sell?

Yes. All farm equipment and machinery must meet safety status and transport requirements before they can be sold. Please consult with a sales representative to discuss further.

Do I need to provide any documentation for the farm machinery?

Yes. To sell your farm equipment with Smith Broughton, proof of ownership is required along with any licensing or certification documents we deem to be necessary. We conduct compulsory Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) checks on all assets that have an identification or serial number.
